29 June 2007 - Commissioner publishes Annual Report for 2006

Data Protection Commissioner, Emma Martins published her Annual Report for the year ending 31 December 2006 today. The report details the activities of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner during the first full year of implementation of the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005.

As well as providing a comprehensive insight into the work of the Commissioner and her team, the report details several case studies and a helpful 'quick guide' to data protection inside the front cover. Deputy Commissioner, Paul Vane said today, "This year's report is an important document which gives an indiciation as to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Office during the course of our first full year of the new Law. This year, we have also included some useful compliance aids in the form of our quick guide and case studies, something we have not tried before in previous years' reports. The staff in our Office strive to keep data protection as simple as possible to avoid misinterpretations of the requirements, so by illustrating practical examples of cases we have been involved with, we hope to put data protection into context and show how mis-handling information could lead to severe consequences for the individuals to whom that information relates."
