20-June-2007 - Commissioner publishes annual report 2007

Data Protection Commissioner, Emma Martins published her Annual Report for the year ending 31 December 2007 today. The report details the activities of the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner during the second full year of implementation of the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005.

As well as providing a comprehensive insight into the work of the Commissioner and her team, the report details several case studies and a helpful 'quick guide' to data protection inside the front cover. Deputy Commissioner, Paul Vane said today, "This year's report gives some useful guidance for data controllers with regard to compliance with the Law, and also to individuals in respect of their rights under the Law, as well as some useful statistical information. Our office does its utmost to keep data protection as simple as possible to avoid misinterpretations of the requirements, so hopefully the case studies we have used will help put data protection into context and show how mis-handling information could lead to severe consequences for the individuals to whom that information relates."
